This depopulator uses an innovative, initially patented process to quickly remove electronic components from printed circuit boards without chemicals\. Developed with support from Phase I and Phase II SBIR awards by the EPA, the depopulator uses infrared radiation to melt solder, allowing for the non\-damaging removal of components, preserving their functionality\. It offers two operation modes:
Refine Mode: Processes approximately 1 ton of boards per 8\-hour shift, heating boards rapidly for maximum throughput\. This mode is designed for recycling, where parts are shipped to refiners for precious metal recovery, significantly reducing shipping weight and smelting costs by 5 to 7:1 while minimizing pollution\.
Reuse Mode: Heats boards at a slower rate to preserve component functionality for reuse, with slightly lower throughput but with parts remaining fully intact\.
